Description

Jordan, one of my favorite co-workers is going away to college in Anchorage in two days. For being so young this girl is one of the most insightful and rational people that I know. She's definitely inspired me on many occasions, so it comes as no surprise that I wanted to photograph her before she leaves. She had never been photographed for portraits before this. I'm not sure if I'll ever be back in Ketchikan or if my path will cross again with all of the amazing people I've met here due to my nomadic tendencies, but at least I have the opportunity to meet and be inspired by them and be able to create and share art with them. The season is ending in a little over a month and people are leaving left and right. I'll be leaving at the end of September, and I'm excited to start the next chapter and meet and create with all sorts of new people again. Anyways, here are a few of Jordan's portraits. Location used was inside of a parking garage where plants were growing over the edge into the garage, and the lighting is all natural with no modifiers. Excuse the watermark in the first image; I'm trying something new.

Hi! <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w…" width="25" height="20" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="437" title="Hi!"/>

A fine portrait!

I can see your thoughts on composition that went into
this piece. Good decision to put the screen of boards into
the centre and the main subject in the right third. Also great
how you used the leaf-bokeh to frame her face.

The picture works very well in black and white, there was good
lighting, accentuating her facial expression.

Two aspects to think about: I would have loved to see a portrait
in long, not in wide format. The screen of boards would have made
a great divider for the picture and from this point of view, maybe
the framing through the leaves would have been even more striking.
You also could have used some more empty space to highlight here
figure. I don´t know if that´s possible and of course you would change
the centre of attention from her face to the whole body, but it could be
worth a try.

Good work!
